Trying to guess what it is...is it a phormium flower?
Are they supposed to be edible/sweet?

V good Peter - take all the points! A phormium tenax, or New Zealand flax - amazing sweet nectar, sucked up with a straw from the centre of each flower

Have you actually done that? Is it easy? says he, mentally eyeing up a few phormiums that he might walk past, and concealing a straw in his pocket :-)
