at last, the olives

its not every day you get to do something monumental

the olive grove, planted at last

120, of four varieties which in their proportions should make a beautifully balanced oil...if they fruit

it doesnt seem quite real

climate change?!

perfect

rained off planting the olives

walnut flower

i know its all firsts and close ups, but thats whats happening

so

the first walnut flower, close up

the first?

all in boxes, doubled over, 120 olive trees

perhaps englands first olive oil is around the corner

id expected short stubby things, but theyre 5-6ft trunks with long flowing branches

and flowering, just

never mind the fruit

the peach trees, moved to the side of the metal barn, stunning blossom

artichokes

1500 artichokes, interplanted between the trees in the new orchard

3 varieties, all chosen for flavour, which will be the nursery bed for offsets to be taken as the trees around them begin to reach maturity

at last

after 5533.38 kilometres, a delay of 12 days while customs decide whether the cargo infringes new eu guidelines about living matter, juggling days off to be free for planting, and months of research in sourcing, the new orchard is planted

57 mulberries
35 sharon fruit
35 pecans

the latter two probably planted for the first time in this country
